Subject: City of Sacramento's Fleet Chosen #1 Government Fleet in North America

The City's Fleet has been recognized as the #1 Government Fleet in North America, as announced yesterday at the NAFA (National Association of Fleet Administrators) Institute and Expo. The City's fleet has improved from 80th place in just six years. Keith Leech, recently retired City Fleet Manager, accepted the award on behalf of the City.

The program recognizes and rewards peak performing public sector fleet operations. The list of the top 100 fleets in North America will be published in American City & County Magazine.

The criteria for moving up to the best on the continent includes implementation of accountability measures; use of technology; collaboration, creativity, and performance recognition of fleet employees; competitive pricing; and maximizing the use of all resources.

Before he left, Keith told me Sacramento would reach #1 this year, and we did! Congratulations to Reina Schwartz and the Fleet Division employees for being the best of the best! This is one more step on the road to becoming the Best Managed City.

John F. Shirey
